Featured Exhibition: Wooden Boats on Georgian Bay: A Journey

BRINGING WATER TRANSPORTATION HERITAGE TO THE COMMUNITY

Restored wooden boats on Georgian Bay

This online exhibition explores the wooden boats that were built and widely used along the shores of Georgian Bay during the period of its early economic and social development. Curated by the Georgian Bay Heritage League (GBHL), this collection not only highlights the incredible boats themselves, but also the restoration process and the individuals involved in their art.

The boats featured in this exhibit have been lovingly restored by the GBHL and its dedicated team of volunteers. However, the preservation of this collection is only half of the GBHL's mandate—the other, no less important half, is to educate the public about the region's rich marine heritage.

This collaborative exhibit, created in partnership with the Canadian Museum of Water, offers an in-depth look at these remarkable boats, the art of their restoration, and the stories to ensure their preservation for future generations.
